1821 – 1879

Some time before the earthquake and volcano eruption of 1868, Amanda Brown died, and was buried on the ranch at Kahuku. Saying no child of his should rest in such a grave, Captain Brown, with the help of a couple of laborers, uncovered the grave and to removed the body to a regular cemetery.

Theophilus Brown

Captain Theophilus M. Brown (1824-1905), Robert's younger brother by 15 years, was a successful whaling captain in his own right.
